While not uncommon, enlarged breast tissue can cause men to experience loss of self-esteem and limit their ability to feel comfortable in their clothes or without a shirt. At The Pennsylvania Centre for Plastic Surgery, we want each person to experience results that make them feel better about themselves. Gynecomastia surgery can create huge differences in a person’s overall quality of life.

What is Gynecomastia? Some boys and men develop excess glandular tissue in the breast area that can cause undesirable fullness. Causes may include puberty, exposure to estrogen hormones, and a variety of other causes. Usually harmless, gynecomastia can still cause significant emotional distress and deserves proper treatment. How Does Gynecomastia Surgery Work?
Dr. Brenman removes excess glandular tissue and fat with liposuction. She will make several small incisions that allow her to insert a cannula. She uses this to disrupt the fat and glandular tissue in the enlarged area and suction it away. This shrinks the breast tissue and leaves a smoother chest. Dr. Brenman may also recommend that individuals with certain types of gynecomastia have their hormone levels checked to make sure a hormonal cause has not contributed to the development of gynecomastia. What are the Benefits of Gynecomastia Surgery?
Removal of Breast Tissue
You will see an immediate decrease in the size of your enlarged breasts, even though it will take several weeks for the swelling to go away so you can see your full results. This glandular tissue will not grow back, so your results will last.More Confidence
Many people experience a tremendous boost in confidence after gynecomastia surgery. The burden of a physically visible condition can cause people emotional distress. After living with a condition that caused them embarrassment, they can now feel free.Freedom to Wear Anything
Men find that after surgery, they no longer have to avoid shirts that highlight excess breast tissue or that they feel comfortable going out without a shirt on for the first time in a long time. While this may seem like a small thing for some people, for those who have lived with this problem for some time, this can feel liberating.Gynecomastia Consultations Available

What is Recovery from Gynecomastia Surgery Like?
Most people can go back to work within three to five days after surgery. However, strenuous activity should be avoided for two to three weeks. Swelling will continue to improve after surgery and for several weeks, and your results will look better and better as the swelling decreases. Dr. Brenman will instruct you on how to care for your small liposuction incisions and other post-surgery care.Am I a Good Candidate for Gynecomastia Surgery?
If you are a male experiencing enlarged breast tissue that makes you feel uncomfortable, you may be a good candidate for surgery. Candidates should be in at least their late teens since some younger males develop temporary gynecomastia during puberty. “After losing 87 pounds I decided I would treat myself and get a tummy tuck that I have been wanting for some time. I researched and thought Dr Scot Brenman would be best. Well suffice it to say I am not thrilled with my results. Ultimately my tummy is flatter which was what I wanted but my belly button is 2 inches above the incision line which I hate! He promised lipo which til this day I’m betting he didn’t do! Also his aftercare was thee WORSE! He never followed up with me after the removal of my drains! No way will he receive another one of my hard earned dimes!” *This visit was a pleasure! Dr. Brenman thoroughly explained my options and did seem rushed. He answered all my questions and made me comfortable with making my decision. Gina was friendly and helpful in facilitating scheduling etc. I feel confident in my choice.
