Eyebrow Lift

At The Pennsylvania Centre for Plastic Surgery in Philadelphia and Plymouth Meeting, PA, our board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Scott A. Brenman specializes in both endoscopic and direct eyebrow lifts.

What is an Eyebrow Lift?

The brow lift, sometimes called a forehead, is a surgical cosmetic procedure used to minimize the wrinkles, creasing and sagging of the skin on the forehead and between the eyebrows. As we age our skin loses elasticity and begins to sag. There are other factors which can contribute to accelerating the rate at which the brow area ages such as genetics and prolonged exposure to the sun. For those that are unhappy with the appearance of their forehead, a brow lift can be a very successful way to achieve the results desired.

Candidates for an Eyebrow Lift

If you are unhappy with the appearance of excessive forehead wrinkles or skin sagging along your brow line, you may be a good candidate for an eyebrow lift. The goal of this procedure is to remove sagging skin, minimize the appearance of deep lines and wrinkles, and help “lift” the eyebrows to a more youthful and rejuvenated position. To be considered a good candidate for this procedure you should be in good physical health, a non-smoker, and have realistic expectations for the outcome of your procedure. To learn what expectations are realistic, we encourage patients to view before and after photos of previous patients who’ve undergone browlift surgery and to schedule a consultation to discuss your specific goals.

How Does It Work?

Dr. Brenman offers two types of eyebrow lift procedures; an endoscopic eyebrow lift and a direct eyebrow lift. The results for these procedures are similar; however, patients should note that the type of procedure selected will influence the visibility of post-operative scarring. In general, the incisions for an endoscopic eyebrow lift will be placed within the hairline to hide post-operative scarring; a direct eyebrow lift places the surgical incision either right above the eyebrows or in the natural crease of the upper lid. The latter is generally done in conjunction with an upper lid blepharoplasty (lid lift). The type you select will depend on your consultation with Dr. Brenman.

Results*

The results of your eyebrow lift procedure can usually be seen right away; however, it may take up to six months for all of your swelling and bruising to disappear. Results are typically long-lasting, depending on an individual’s aging process.

Recovery*

Most patients usually take about 3-5 days off from work to recover from their eyebrow lift. You’ll experience some swelling and bruising, especially around the incision site or under the eyes. Most patients are able to return to work after a week, and cover up any remaining bruising after the first week. You should be able to return to your normal fitness routine, depending on Dr. Brenman’s recommendation, after a few weeks.
