How Long Does a Tummy Tuck Take?

Pregnancy, dramatic weight changes, and aging can cause our skin to stretch and sag. To address these issues, Dr. Brenman at The Pennsylvania Centre for Plastic Surgery offers tummy tuck procedures that will help you achieve a slender abdominal area.

What is a Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)?

A tummy tuck or abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure that can remove fat from your abdomen to give you a slimmer figure. Additionally, it can improve the appearance of stretch marks and remove excess sagging skin that may stop you from looking your best. Although tummy tucks can help you shed a couple of pounds, remember that it is not a weight loss solution. Moreover, it should not replace healthy lifestyle habits, such as a well-balanced diet and regular exercise.    View More Patient Results

How Long Can a Tummy Tuck Take? The total time for a tummy tuck depends on the techniques your surgeon uses during the procedure and the extent of your incisions. Most tummy tucks are completed in two to three hours Your abdominoplasty may also take longer to complete if you decide to combine it with other surgical procedures, such as a mommy makeover or liposuction. This one-time procedure may save you a lot of time in the long run, as it doesn’t require multiple treatment sessions like non-surgical procedures.

How is a Tummy Tuck Performed?

During a tummy tuck at The Pennsylvania Centre for Plastic Surgery, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Brenman makes well-hidden incisions below the bikini line. Next, he removes loose skin and fat and repositions the remaining skin to achieve a more aesthetically-pleasing abdomen. He also tightens loose abdominal muscles to give you a more toned abdomen. During the procedure, Dr. Brenman may also use liposuction techniques to remove stubborn fat pockets to help achieve a more contoured tummy appearance.

Tummy Tuck Consultations Available

What Results Can I Expect After a Tummy Tuck? After abdominoplasty, you may see immediate improvements. However, you may need to wait six to twelve months for your tummy tuck results to develop fully. You may enjoy long-lasting benefits after your tummy tuck, including a slimmer and firmer abdomen. Moreover, you may see fewer stretch marks on your lower abdomen and a smoother appearance.

Who is an Ideal Candidate for a Tummy Tuck?

If you are healthy, maintain a stable weight, and are struggling to achieve a slimmer tummy, you may be an ideal candidate for a tummy tuck. Additionally, abdominoplasty candidates have realistic expectations about the procedure and are prepared to undergo pre-screening testing before their tummy tuck.  To determine if a tummy tuck is a right procedure for you, we encourage you to schedule an appointment with board-certified Dr. Brenman. He will examine your health and abdominal area to determine if you are a good candidate for abdominoplasty.
