What to Expect After a Mommy Makeover

Motherhood is a beautiful journey, but it can also take a toll on a woman’s body. That’s why Dr. Scott Brenman offers personalized mommy makeover procedures to help you regain confidence in your appearance.

What is a Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover is a combination of cosmetic procedures designed to address post-pregnancy body issues and help women regain their pre-baby bodies. Pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding can cause significant changes to a woman’s physique, including sagging breasts, excess skin, and stubborn fat. That’s why a mommy makeover is tailored to each patient’s specific concerns to restore a slimmer, more youthful figure.

Mommy Makeover Procedure

A mommy makeover most often includes a tummy tuck, breast augmentation or lift, and liposuction. Dr. Brenman performs the surgery on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. This may take several hours if several procedures are involved.

Typically, Dr. Brenman will make an incision along the bikini line to perform a tummy tuck, removing excess skin and fat and tightening the abdominal muscles. Breast augmentation or a breast lift will involve incisions around the nipples, under the breasts, or near the armpits. Liposuction can be performed as needed to remove stubborn pockets of fat almost anywhere on the body.

What to Expect After a Mommy Makeover

After your surgery, a friend or family member can drive you home, and we recommend having them stay with you for at least the first night. Patients should expect bruising, swelling, and general discomfort after a mommy makeover, especially if they’ve had several procedures done. You’ll need to take it easy for a few days, and you may need to wear compression garments depending on your personalized procedure.

You should plan to take one to two weeks off of work. Most swelling and bruising should subside within three weeks, and most women can resume exercise and strenuous activities after six weeks.

When Will I See Results After a Mommy Makeover?

Though the results of a mommy makeover are immediate, they may be obscured initially by swelling. Healing varies from patient to patient, but most women start seeing results within a few weeks after the procedure. However, it can take several months for the swelling to subside completely and for the body to fully heal. You can expect to see your final results in approximately six months.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover is an excellent option for women who want to restore their pre-baby bodies and can be tailored to your exact needs. Ideal candidates for a mommy makeover are in good overall health, have realistic expectations, and are done having children. You should wait at least six months after breastfeeding to have a mommy makeover.
