How Does a Body Lift Work?

Losing weight is a tremendous challenge, and those who accomplish it deserve to enjoy their results. However, sagging skin can make you feel like your transformation is incomplete. A body lift can tighten your loose skin for a more sculpted figure. This procedure often makes people feel they can finally enjoy their weight loss results.

What is a Body Lift?

Carrying excess weight causes your skin to stretch over time. If you lose that weight, your skin is not elastic enough to tighten back to its original position. A body lift removes loose skin and tightens separated muscles to reveal your slimmer shape. This effective procedure can be the final step in a long weight loss journey, a reward for your accomplishments. Surgery is the only effective way to address this post-weight loss sagging.

How Does a Body Lift Work?

A body lift is a customized procedure based on your needs. Each person gains and loses weight differently, so your sagging skin will occur in a unique pattern. A circumferential body lift makes an incision around your lower body and lifts the skin. Dr. Brenman removes the excess skin and tightens the remaining skin for a smooth, contoured appearance. Since weight changes can cause your abdominal muscles to separate, the procedure will also tighten these muscles for a flatter abdomen.

A body lift may include other procedures. These often include a thigh lift, arm lift, or other procedures to address loose skin. During your consultation, Dr. Brenman will review your concerns and recommend a comprehensive plan to achieve your desired results.

What is Recovery Like After a Body Lift?

A body lift is a significant procedure, so you will need to follow your recovery instructions carefully. Depending on the details of your procedure, you will usually need one to three weeks off work. After four to six weeks, you can resume most of your usual activities, including exercise. A compression garment will protect and support the surgical area during the first part of your recovery. Attending your follow-up appointments will ensure you heal smoothly and without complications.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Body Lift?

People who have body lifts have typically lost a large amount of weight and want to address loose skin. Good candidates have no major health problems and reasonable expectations. You should be prepared to take as much time as needed to recover and understand the procedure’s risks and benefits.

You may not be a good candidate if you have any health condition that would make surgery unsafe. You should not have a body lift if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you plan to become pregnant in the future, keep in mind that your abdominal skin may stretch again.

This visit was a pleasure! Dr. Brenman thoroughly explained my options and did seem rushed. He answered all my questions and made me comfortable with making my decision. Gina was friendly and helpful in facilitating scheduling etc. I feel confident in my choice.
