What is a Body Lift?

Losing a lot of weight is a significant achievement that you should be extremely proud of. It takes a lot of commitment and courage to embark on a journey where you lose weight and adopt a healthy lifestyle. Unfortunately, when you lose a lot of weight, you’re often left with loose skin, which can make you feel self-conscious. Thankfully, Dr. Brenman can provide a plastic surgery treatment that deals with this issue and helps you feel more confident.

Body Lift Overview

This treatment is known as the body lift. Body lift surgery is a popular way of removing excess skin following extreme weight loss. It is typically used on the legs, arms, stomach, and any other area of the body where sagging skin persists. The underlying purpose of a body lift is to let you see the true results of your hard work! When you look at the process, it can be broken down into three different stages.

Body Lift Preparation

The preparation stage is designed to get you ready for the procedure. At this point, you will already have had a consultation and be approved for surgery. Here, the only preparation is to avoid smoking, avoid anti-inflammatory drugs, and possibly take some medication. Don’t worry, all the details will be explained by Dr. Brenman before the procedure.

Body Lift Procedure

Incisions are made at different points in the body to remove sagging skin. Before this, medication will be given to ensure you are comfortable and can’t feel anything during the surgery. Sometimes, liposuction is used during the body lift to remove any additional fat and improve the body contour. When all the skin has been removed, the incisions are closed up. The whole procedure can last anywhere between 3-5 hours, depending on how much skin is removed.

Body Lift Aftercare and Recovery

The results of a body lift can be seen right away, but you will also experience swelling and bruising during the recovery period. This is natural after a surgical procedure, which is why a degree of recovery time is needed. Dr. Brenman will provide you with compression garments to help reduce your swelling, and you may get some medication to ease any pain. 1-2 weeks should be taken off work to help you heal – though this depends on how physically demanding your job is. Dr. Brenman tends to suggest a 4-week break from intensive exercise, but this might be increased depending on your case.

Benefits of a Body Lift

The key benefit is that you can remove any excess skin following excessive weight loss. In doing so, it reveals the true results of all your hard work and dedication. Many people feel better after losing loads of weight, but still see lots of sagging skin that makes them feel dissatisfied with their appearance. A body lift is one of the best ways to safely remove excess skin, boosting your confidence in the process.

Am I a Candidate for a Body Lift?

The body lift procedure isn’t for everyone, and it’s not a weight-loss method. This surgery is for healthy individuals that have already lost a lot of weight. If you’ve worked hard to lose weight, but can’t see the results due to sagging skin, you’re the perfect candidate for a body lift.   “After losing 87 pounds I decided I would treat myself and get a tummy tuck that I have been wanting for some time. I researched and thought Dr Scot Brenman would be best. Well suffice it to say I am not thrilled with my results. Ultimately my tummy is flatter which was what I wanted but my belly button is 2 inches above the incision line which I hate! He promised lipo which til this day I’m betting he didn’t do! Also his aftercare was thee WORSE! He never followed up with me after the removal of my drains! No way will he receive another one of my hard earned dimes!” *
This visit was a pleasure! Dr. Brenman thoroughly explained my options and did seem rushed. He answered all my questions and made me comfortable with making my decision. Gina was friendly and helpful in facilitating scheduling etc. I feel confident in my choice.
