Upper Eyelid Lift vs. Lower Eyelid Lift: Which One Do You Need?

You’ve heard that an eyelid lift can help you get a more alert, well-rested, and youthful appearance. All About the Upper Eyelid Lift

An upper eyelid lift – also known as an upper blepharoplasty – is designed to address lid sagging, as well as wrinkles and fatty deposits that can make you look older than your actual years. During the upper eyelid lift, your plastic surgeon makes an incision within the eyelid crease and removes excess fat, all while repositioning sagging lid muscles. Finally, extra skin is removed and the incisions are closed, leaving behind a smoother and more alert appearance.

The Scoop on the Lower Eyelid Lift

The lower eyelid lift – also referred to as a lower blepharoplasty – is a cosmetic surgery that focuses on alleviating the appearance of undereye bags for a brighter and more alert look. During this surgery, your plastic surgeon will make incisions within the lash line to remove fatty deposits and smooth out excess skin. The results can be game-changing for patients who are frustrated at constantly looking overtired, even if they’ve been getting their eight hours of sleep.

Which One is Right for Me?

The one that’s right for you will largely depend on your specific aesthetic goals. Generally, someone needing treatment of both upper and lower lids will have them treated at the same time to reduce overall recovery time and also lower costs. In general, you should get an upper eyelid lift if you have sagging eyelids that make you look tired and fatigued. If your sagging eyelids are making it difficult for you to enjoy your full field of vision, part of the cost of your surgery may be covered by your health insurance policy. You should get a lower eyelid lift if you have dark or heavy undereye bags that make you look extremely tired. Patients with excessive fat underneath their eyes see excellent results with a lower eyelid lift.   Perfect – no pain during and two hours after anesthesia wore off, I had no discomfort whatsoever. Less than one week afterwards, all swelling & redness had gone away. Now my eyelids don’t throw a shadow on my vision. Excellent! Thank you Dr. Brenman.

This visit was a pleasure! Dr. Brenman thoroughly explained my options and did seem rushed. He answered all my questions and made me comfortable with making my decision. Gina was friendly and helpful in facilitating scheduling etc. I feel confident in my choice.
