Neck Liposuction vs. Neck Lift: What’s the Difference?

Your neck is almost as visible as your face, and it can accumulate its own issues that affect your appearance. Neck liposuction and neck lifts are two ways to address concerns with this problem area. They can correct issues such as sagging skin, a double chin, or a “turkey neck” for a more youthful, contoured look.

What is Neck Liposuction?

A double chin is one of the most common concerns around the neck area. This accumulated fat can make your neck and chin look less defined and often does not respond to weight loss or other efforts. Neck liposuction removes this unwanted fat for a slimmer neck and a more defined chin and jaw.  Neck Lift Plymouth Meeting

What is a Neck Lift?

Neck skin can sag with age, resulting in the appearance of the unflatteringly named “turkey neck.” A neck lift uses a few small incisions to tighten the skin and correct the muscles that cause neck bands. A neck lift helps you achieve a sculpted, youthful-looking neck and lower face

Neck Liposuction vs. Neck Lift: What’s the Difference?

Neck liposuction and neck lifts address the same area but not the same problems. Only a consultation can determine which one will work best for your needs.

What They Treat

Neck liposuction is recommended for those with excess submental (under the chin) fat but good skin elasticity. If you have a double chin, but no sagging, neck liposuction alone may be an excellent option. However, sagging skin will not rebound after liposuction. A neck lift effectively addresses loose skin and smooths neck bands. It does not remove submental fat, so those with a double chin may not see the results they want with a neck lift alone.

Procedure

Neck liposuction is performed using a few small incisions to insert a cannula that breaks up and removes fat. A neck lift is a more complex procedure that uses a few well-hidden incisions to tighten the skin and correct other concerns. Scars from both procedures are nearly invisible after healing.

Recovery Time

Recovery from any procedure differs between individuals. Most people can return to work within a few days after neck liposuction or a week after a neck lift. People with more active jobs may require two weeks or more before returning to their usual activities.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Neck Lift or Neck Liposuction?

Most healthy adults are good candidates for a neck lift or neck liposuction. Candidates should have reasonable expectations and should not smoke. Those with a double chin and good skin elasticity may be good candidates for neck liposuction, while those with sagging skin and neck bands may be good candidates for a neck lift. In reality, a neck lift often includes liposuction to remove pockets of fat for more sculpted results.
