How Long After Giving Birth Do I Wait to Get a Mommy Makeover?

Though children may be one of the most rewarding parts of life, pregnancy often comes with some unwanted changes to your body. If you want to regain your pre-baby body after having kids, it may be time for a mommy makeover!

What is a Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover is a combination of procedures designed to restore and improve your body’s appearance after childbirth. Many women are frustrated with the changes in their figure after having children, and almost always, a healthy lifestyle isn’t enough to restore your body to its pre-pregnancy state. As a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon with extensive experience, Dr. Scott Brenman can help you regain your ideal body and your confidence after childbirth. A mommy makeover addresses concerns such as:
  • Deflated or sagging breasts
  • Loose skin and muscles
  • Stubborn fat deposits
  • Stomach pooch

How Long After Childbirth Should I Wait to Get a Mommy Makeover?

It’s understandable to want your pre-baby body back as soon as possible, but it’s important to give your body plenty of time to heal after pregnancy. You should wait at least six months after giving birth to have a mommy makeover. Your body is still changing during this time, and some issues may resolve themselves with exercise and healthy eating. It’s also important to wait until you’re done having children before getting a mommy makeover. Another pregnancy will undo the results of the procedure, and revision surgeries have higher risks and significantly increase your cost and inconvenience.

What to Expect With a Mommy Makeover

Dr. Brenman will discuss your aesthetic goals to determine which procedures are necessary to achieve your ideal results. The most commonly included procedures in a mommy makeover are:
  • Breast lift
  • Breast augmentation
  • Tummy tuck
  • Liposuction
Having these procedures done simultaneously can save you money and time. Dr. Brenman performs mommy makeovers under general anesthesia, and you’ll be able to return home the same day with the help of a friend or family member.

Recovery After a Mommy Makeover

The procedure and recovery time will depend on which surgeries are included in your personalized mommy makeover surgery. Swelling and soreness are likely for a couple of weeks, and you may need to wear compression garments. You should expect to take at least one or two weeks off work. During this time, you may need help with routine chores and childcare. Full recovery can take several weeks. Some improvements will probably be noticeable immediately after the procedure, but your best results will appear after the swelling subsides.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Mommy Makeover?

If you’re concerned about drooping breasts or a loose stomach after pregnancy, a mommy makeover might be the solution. Ideal candidates are healthy non-smokers that are done having children.
