About Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation involves the use of implants or a fat transfer to change the size, shape, and volume of the breasts. Unlike a breast lift, where excess skin is removed and the nipple adjusted to reduce the appearance of sagging, breast augmentation involves some form of filler, usually a silicone or saline implant to change the size and shape of the breast. Aside from helping women to increase their breast size, breast augmentation can also help women to restore the shape of their breasts after pregnancy or weight loss.

Breast Augmentation Recovery

Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure, and so there is some down-time to be expected. Generally, breast augmentations are out-patient surgery, meaning that patients get to go home the same day, though they do still have some guidelines to follow. Following your surgery, you will spend 1-2 hours in the recovery room, where Dr. Brenman and his team will make sure that you are comfortable and aware of the recovery process. You will then be sent home wearing a special surgical bra that contains padding and which can be removed the next day and replaced with a comfortable sports bra. Generally, the sutures used during the procedure are dissolvable and will dissolve on their own underneath the skin with no additional input.  After a few days rest, most women find that they are able to get back to normal light activities, and depending on their job, can even return to work. It’s advised to avoid sexual activity for at least a week and to restrict all vigorous activities for 2-3 weeks to allow the breasts to fully heal. Although Dr. Brenman will do all he can to reduce the visibility of your incisions, some easily concealed scarring is to be expected.

Benefits of Breast Augmentation

Women choose to get breast augmentation surgery for a number of reasons. Some are self-conscious about the size of their breasts, others would like to improve their shape, and some have experienced weight loss or a reduction in breast volume after pregnancy and wish to restore their breasts fullness to reduce the appearance sagging. Regardless of the reason why women choose to get breast augmentation, the procedure can help them to feel more confident in their bodies, which in turn can have an effect on all aspects of their lives including their careers and relationships.

Am I a Candidate for Breast Augmentation?

If you’re unhappy with your breasts, then you could be a candidate for breast augmentation at The Pennsylvania Centre for Plastic Surgery.
