How Do I Know if I Need a Breast Lift?

Are you reluctant to let anyone see your sagging breasts? If drooping breasts have affected your confidence, you might need a breast lift. This procedure lifts and repositions the breasts to achieve a more youthful, desirable shape. Whether your breasts sag because they have lost volume or because of their size, a breast lift can give you the perkier shape you want.

What is a Breast Lift (Mastopexy)?

A mastopexy, or breast lift, is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin to lift and reposition the breasts. It also repositions the nipples so that they point outward instead of downward. A breast lift can be performed alone or in combination with other procedures, such as an augmentation or reduction. Dr. Scott Brenman performs breast lifts at the Pennsylvania Centre For Plastic Surgery.

How Do I Know if I Need a Breast Lift?

To determine whether you need a breast lift, you should consider what bothers you most about the appearance of your breasts.

  • Do your breasts sag or droop?
  • Has most of your breast volume moved to the bottom part of the breasts?
  • Do your nipples and areolas point toward the ground instead of outward?
  • Do you want your breasts to sit higher on your chest?

These may be signs that a breast lift can help you achieve your goals. However, only a consultation can determine whether a breast lift is right for you. Good candidates for a breast lift have no major health issues and do not smoke. During your consultation, Dr. Brenman will assess whether a breast lift is the best procedure to achieve the results you want.

How is a Breast Lift Performed?

Dr. Brenman performs a breast lift by removing excess skin to lift and shape the breasts. You will have one incision around the areola and may have other incisions under the breast. The details of your procedure will depend on your individual needs. Dr. Brenman removes skin to correct sagging and lift the breasts back to a more youthful, perky location. A breast lift does not add or remove volume, but it can redistribute the breast volume you have. With your volume moved to the upper part of the breasts, they can look rounder and fuller even without enhancement.

Can I Have a Breast Lift and Breast Augmentation?

A breast lift corrects sagging breasts, but cannot fix other concerns, such as not enough or too much breast volume. A breast lift can be combined with a breast augmentation or reduction. Dr. Brenman may perform two procedures at the same time or individually. If you want to add volume but have sagging breasts, you may benefit from breast augmentation and lift.
