When Will I See Results After a Facelift?

Even a diligent skincare routine cannot keep signs of aging away forever. Skin laxity develops as a normal part of aging, followed by lines, wrinkles, and sagging. A facelift restores a more youthful appearance by lifting the skin and supporting layers. This procedure tightens loose skin, correcting wrinkles, marionette lines, and sagging jowls.

What is a Facelift?

A rhytidectomy or facelift is performed to undo signs of aging by lifting and tightening the skin. Dr. Brenman at the Pennsylvania Centre for Plastic Surgery customizes each facelift to address your needs and the severity of your lines, wrinkles, and laxity. He often combines a facelift and neck lift to sculpt and tighten the entire lower face and neckline.  Facelift Plymouth Meeting

How is a Facelift Performed?

Dr. Brenman usually performs a short scar facelift, using hidden incisions around the ears and hairline. A facelift is usually performed under general anesthesia, although lighter sedation may also be used. Dr. Brenman will lift the skin, muscle, and connective tissue layers, redraping them over your facial structures and securing them in this tighter, more youthful position.

When Will I See Results After a Facelift?

You will have bandages over your incisions when you leave your facelift procedure. Your facelift results will be hidden by swelling and bruising for several days. These will fade within the first week or two, and you will begin to see results after about a month. Residual swelling after rhytidectomy can take months to resolve. As a result, your facelift will continue to develop and improve for up to a year.

What is Recovery Like After a Facelift?

You can expect to spend the first few days after your procedure resting, and you will need to avoid strenuous activities for several weeks. You can usually return to work after one to two weeks, depending on how you feel about your appearance. Those with physically active jobs may need more recovery time. Scars may look pink at first but will gradually fade to become unnoticeable.

What Procedures Can I Have With a Facelift?

While planning a facelift, consider combining it with other procedures. Having more than one procedure during the same surgery does not usually increase your recovery time, and you can save money over having them as separate surgeries. Procedures that combine well with a facelift include:
  • A neck lift to slim the neck and tighten sagging jowls
  • An eyelid lift to rejuvenate the upper or lower eyelids
  • A brow lift to tighten and smooth the forehead
  • Botox® to smooth lines between the brows and around the eyes
  • Dermal fillers for marionette lines, nasolabial folds, and other wrinkles

Am I a Good Candidate for a Facelift?

Good candidates for rhytidectomy have moderate to significant signs of aging, such as wrinkles, sagging, and loss of definition. In general, facelift candidates range from their 40s to their 60s. However, individuals younger or older than that can have a facelift if they are in good health and bothered by laxity or sagging. Only a consultation can determine whether a facelift is the best way to achieve your desired results.
I was very apprehensive about having the procedures done (Facelift), although I have been dissatisfied with my face for 20 years. Dr. Brenman and his staff were very calming, reassuring and comforting. Dr. Brenman sent me a very comprehensive email about the procedure and recovery. I am very pleased with the results. There are no visible scars- I look great! Dr. Brenman was there to answer all my questions, in person or by email.*
