What are Dermal Fillers?

Are you frustrated with signs of aging on your face, like wrinkles and lost facial volume? Dermal fillers smooth out lines and have a plumping effect to take years off your face with one simple treatment.

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal filler injections, also called soft tissue fillers, are a cosmetic procedure that smooths and softens the face by adding volume. There are several types of dermal fillers that are made up of different ingredients to accomplish various aesthetic goals.

Dermal fillers are an FDA-approved treatment for wrinkles, aging, and lost facial volume. Dr. Scott Brenman offers Juvederm® injections as an option to restore vitality and youthfulness to your appearance.

Types of Dermal Fillers

The most popular dermal filler is hyaluronic acid, which is what’s used in Juvederm®. Some injections also use collagen, poly-L-lactic acid, calcium hydroxylapatite, or polymethyl methacrylate.

Hyaluronic acid gel fillers like Juvederm® are the most popular dermal filler option and have exceptional benefits. Since hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring chemical in your skin, your body absorbs it more easily, and there’s less risk of an allergic reaction.

Dr. Brenham offers three Juvederm® fillers to best meet your aesthetic needs:

Juvederm® Voluma® fills and smooths your cheeks and mid-face region Juvederm® Vollure® is best for wrinkles and folds around your nose and mouth Juvederm® Volbela® is used to plump and enhance your lips and can also reduce smoker’s lines What to Expect With Dermal Fillers

Before you receive dermal fillers, Dr. Brenman will discuss your aesthetic goals and determine a treatment plan during your consultation. Dermal filler injections only take about 15 minutes, and you’ll be able to return to your daily routine immediately. Mild bruising and swelling are possible, but this should fade within a few days.

Juvederm® results can last nine months to two years. You can have repeat injections every year or two to maintain these results, and you may notice that the improvements last longer after each treatment.

Benefits of Dermal Fillers

Though dermal fillers like Juvederm® are often associated with lip augmentation, they are an effective treatment for enhancing the entire face. Juvederm® can address concerns such as sagging skin, wrinkles and folds, vertical lip lines, thin lips, smile lines, under-eye hollows, and sunken cheeks.

After receiving dermal fillers, you can expect:

A fuller appearance of the targeted area, such as lips and cheeks Improved facial volume and symmetry A smoother complexion with reduced wrinkles and lines

These improvements are immediately visible after treatment. Dermal fillers like Juvederm® that use hyaluronic acid gel also increase water retention and collagen production in your skin, giving you brighter, healthier, glowing skin.

Am I a Good Candidate for Dermal Fillers?

If you have mild-to-moderate facial aging, like wrinkles and sagging skin, and are a healthy non-smoker, you’re probably a good candidate for dermal fillers. For more severe signs of aging, Dr. Brenman may recommend a surgical procedure for more dramatic results.
