Breast Augmentation 101: Everything You Need to Know

Are you dissatisfied with the shape and size of your breasts? Many women are frustrated with lost breast volume due to age or pregnancy or are unhappy with unnaturally small breasts. As an experienced board-certified surgeon, Dr. Scott Brenman can help you finally feel confident in your figure with natural-looking breast augmentation.

What is Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure that increases the size and enhances the shape of breasts. This cosmetic procedure is also commonly referred to as augmentation mammoplasty and may be done in combination with a breast lift. Breast augmentation can be done using implants or fat transfer. Dr. Brenman performs breast augmentation with silicone or saline implants, which come in many shapes and sizes to suit your preferences. He will help you choose the best implants using 3D Vectra computer imaging to show you what they might look like. Breast Augmentation Plymouth Meeting

How Does a Breast Augmentation Procedure Work?

During a breast augmentation procedure, Dr. Brenman will make incisions around the nipples, under the breasts, or in the armpits. He will then insert the implants underneath the chest muscle and reposition the nipples if necessary before closing the incisions with absorbable sutures.

Breast Augmentation Recovery

After breast augmentation, most patients can return to work and normal activities within a week or two. However, strenuous activities such as heavy lifting and rigorous exercise should be avoided for several weeks after the procedure. After the surgery, it is normal to experience some discomfort, swelling, and bruising. Dr. Brenman will instruct you on using pain medication and compression garments to manage any discomfort.

Results of Breast Augmentation

The results of breast augmentation are typically noticeable immediately after the surgery. You can expect fuller, larger, and more shapely breasts. However, the final results may take several weeks or months to be fully visible as the breasts heal and settle into their new shape. Many women enjoy trying new clothing styles and feel more confident in their bodies after the procedure. Breast augmentation offers long-lasting results, with implants typically lasting at least a decade

Am I a Good Candidate for Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation is a popular procedure that helps many women enhance their appearance and confidence. You may benefit from breast augmentation if you:
  • Want larger, fuller breasts
  • Want to improve the shape and roundness of your breasts
  • Have asymmetrical breasts
  • Have lost breast volume with age or childbirth
Ideal candidates should be in good overall health and have realistic expectations about the procedure’s outcome. During your consultation, Dr. Brenman will discuss your goals and help you determine if breast augmentation is right for you.
After 5 consultations with plastic surgeons, choosing Dr. Brenman was easy. I felt I could trust him and he seemed to have a lot of experience with breast augmentation procedures.
