Am I a Candidate for a Breast Augmentation?

Are you bothered by the size of your breasts? You can have larger, fuller breasts with a breast augmentation. This popular procedure uses implants to increase your breast volume. Most healthy people make good candidates for breast augmentation, but it’s not right for everyone.

What is Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation uses implants to enhance breast volume. With a range of implant sizes and different firmness levels, you can achieve the look and feel you want. Dr. Scott Brenman performs breast augmentation at The Pennsylvania Centre for Plastic Surgery. His patients consistently see results even better than they expected.

Am I a Candidate for a Breast Augmentation?

Candidates for breast augmentation should be in generally good health with no significant medical problems. You may also be a good candidate if you:
  • Want more breast volume
  • Feel like your breasts are asymmetrical
  • Wish your breasts were a different shape
  • Notice that your breasts have changed with age
  • Lost breast volume after pregnancy
  • Have reasonable expectations about your results
You can have breast augmentation if you smoke, but only if you quit smoking before the procedure. Smoking impairs the healing process.

What is Breast Augmentation Like?

During your consultation, Dr. Brenman will use Vectra 3D imaging technology to help you visualize your final results. This imaging gives a realistic 3D image of your breasts before and after the procedure using different implant types and sizes.  Dr. Brenman performs breast augmentation under general anesthesia to prevent you from feeling any discomfort. He will use an incision under the breast, around the areola, or in the underarm and place your implant behind the chest muscle to give you the most natural-looking results. If necessary, he will reposition the areola to keep it in the desired position, then close the incisions with absorbable sutures.

Do I Need a Breast Lift or a Breast Augmentation? While a breast augmentation can correct loss of volume, it cannot address the problem of loose or sagging skin. You may not achieve the results you want from your breast augmentation if you also have significant sagging. In this situation, Dr. Brenman may perform a breast lift, breast augmentation, or both. A breast lift will reposition the breast, resize the areola if needed, and remove loose skin to restore a rounder, more youthful appearance.

What Results Will I See With a Breast Augmentation?

You can see your results as soon as your bandages are removed at your follow-up appointment. However, you will still have a significant amount of swelling, so the results you see do not represent what your breast will look like after healing. Most people will see their final results after several months.
This visit was a pleasure! Dr. Brenman thoroughly explained my options and did seem rushed. He answered all my questions and made me comfortable with making my decision. Gina was friendly and helpful in facilitating scheduling etc. I feel confident in my choice.
