How to Get Rid of Gynecomastia

When men develop fat and glandular tissue in the breast area, they may feel ashamed and isolated. Dr. Brenman wants these men to know how many other men have the same problem they have, and that The Pennsylvania Centre for Plastic Surgery can treat it.

What is Gynecomastia? Men can develop fat and glandular tissue similar to the tissue in female breasts. Gynecomastia may result from hereditary factors, obesity, hormonal imbalances, or even some medications. Hormonal factors can cause the male body to have an excess of estrogen, which promotes breast development.  These may look like female breasts and often cause significant embarrassment. Men should know, however, that this condition affects many others and many of them can have corrective surgery. A fairly simple procedure can remove this excess tissue and restore a more masculine-looking chest!

How Does Gynecomastia Surgery Work?

Dr. Brenman makes very small incisions and performs liposuction in each area of fat and glandular tissue. The liposuction cannula disrupts and suctions out the excess tissue. She will remove both types of tissue to fully shrink the mass of the breast tissue until the chest looks flatter and more closely resembles each person’s goals.  If the individual has hormonal imbalances contributing to their condition, they should have these investigated and treated along with the surgical removal. While the glandular tissue has been removed, a hormonal imbalance can cause other problems.

What Results Will I See From Gynecomastia Surgery?

Your chest will look flatter immediately after surgery. However, you will experience some swelling and bruising. After about four to six months this will have faded and you will see your full results. In addition, the skin in the area might shrink back and tightens over time, resulting in an even more improved appearance.  After surgery, you will wear a compression garment around your chest for about a week, and you should feel almost completely recovered after two to three weeks. You can resume exercise after three weeks, and most people can return to work about three to five days post-surgery. With only small incisions from the liposuction, most people recover without complications.

Am I a Candidate for Gynecomastia Surgery?

The best candidates for this type of surgery are men unhappy with the size and appearance of male breast tissue. We also recommend that they not smoke and be in good physical health. People must also have reasonable expectations for what the procedure can and cannot accomplish for them.   “After losing 87 pounds I decided I would treat myself and get a tummy tuck that I have been wanting for some time. I researched and thought Dr Scot Brenman would be best. Well suffice it to say I am not thrilled with my results. Ultimately my tummy is flatter which was what I wanted but my belly button is 2 inches above the incision line which I hate! He promised lipo which til this day I’m betting he didn’t do! Also his aftercare was thee WORSE! He never followed up with me after the removal of my drains! No way will he receive another one of my hard earned dimes!” *
This visit was a pleasure! Dr. Brenman thoroughly explained my options and did seem rushed. He answered all my questions and made me comfortable with making my decision. Gina was friendly and helpful in facilitating scheduling etc. I feel confident in my choice.
