Facelift

As facial skin gets older, it tends to lose its elasticity and firmness – and that can lead to noticeable drooping. On top of that, facial fat begins to break down and drift downwards, causing significant drooping around the neck and jawline. The only way to truly correct these aging symptoms is through a short scar facelift and neck lift procedure. This procedure helps tighten sagging skin and remove excess fat for a more contoured and youthful appearance.
At The Pennsylvania Centre for Plastic Surgery in Philadelphia and Plymouth Meeting, PA, our board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Scott A. Brenman can combine a short scar facelift procedure with a neck lift for optimum results.

What Is a Short Scar Facelift?

A rhytidectomy or facelift is designed to restore a more youthful appearance to the neck and jowl region by removing major wrinkles and sagging skin. If there is excess fat in the neck or chin region, this can simultaneously be addressed with liposuction or direct excision. A facelift can improve a tired facial appearance by smoothing the skin and reestablishing defined contours along the neck and jawline. It is often done in combination with other procedures including a browlift, eyelid surgery and fat transfer to create an overall harmonious, youthful result.

Candidates for a Short Scar Facelift and Neck Lift

The ideal candidates for a short scar facelift and neck lift have moderate to severe facial and neck sagging, as well as excessive fat around the jawline. These candidates usually see their best results with surgical intervention, rather than with non-surgical treatments or over-the-counter solutions.

Candidates should be healthy non-smokers who have realistic expectations for the procedure’s outcomes.

How Does It Work?

The surgery is done in the office under light sedation, or in the operating room under general anesthesia, and typically takes 3-4 hours. Incisions are made in the natural crease in front of the ear, around the earlobe, and behind the ear extending into the hairline. It involves elevation of the skin, tightening of the facial and neck muscles and redraping and removal of any excess skin.

Results*

Most patients may notice their results within the first month after some swelling and bruising has gone down. Final results are usually noticeable around 6-12 months, as it usually takes some time for the results to settle into place.

Recovery*

Postoperatively patients may have a drain in overnight as well as head and neck wrappings. After these are removed, patients are often required to wear a removable chin strap for several weeks. Sutures are usually dissolvable after a few weeks and it is usually 2 to 3 weeks before most patients feel socially presentable.
