Chin augmentation is a surgical procedure that’s designed to increase the size of the chin or to reshape it in a way that lends proportion to the rest of the face. The surgery uses silicone implants to add natural-looking volume and shape to the jawline. Chin augmentation surgery presents a long-term solution for clients who want a stronger jawline or who feel as though their facial structure doesn’t have the right balance.
The surgery usually takes less than an hour to complete and is performed on an outpatient basis under general or local anesthesia. During the procedure, Dr. Brenman will make a small incision beneath the chin; this is done to hide post-surgical scarring. The silicone implant is placed within the chin and adjusted to provide the patient’s ideal shape. Once the implant has been positioned, the incision is closed.
Results are immediately visible, although patients shouldn’t expect to see final results for three to four months. This allows the swelling and bruising to go down, at which point, the final shape of the patient’s jawline will be visible.
There’s minimal recovery involved in a chin augmentation procedure; most patients are able to return to work after a few days of rest. Patients should use ice to help reduce swelling and bruising, and may take over-the-counter pain medications to counteract any discomfort they feel during the first week after the surgery.
