While many women seek out breast augmentation to achieve larger breasts, some women suffer back pain and other side effects of overly large, heavy breasts. Breast reduction can alleviate pain, improve your quality of life, and boost your confidence by removing excess breast tissue.
What is Breast Reduction?
Breast reduction is a surgery that reduces the size and weight of excessively large breasts. Also known as reduction mammoplasty, this procedure involves the removal of excess breast tissue, fat, and skin to create smaller, lighter, and more proportionate breasts. The surgery can also improve the shape and position of the breasts, as well as relieve physical symptoms such as neck pain, back pain, and shoulder pain.View More Patient Results

How Does a Breast Reduction Procedure Work?
Dr. Brenman will make incisions on the breasts to remove excess tissue, fat, and skin. Depending on the extent of the reduction, the incisions may be made around the areola, vertically from the areola to the breast crease, and horizontally along the breast crease. Once healed, these incisions are typically well-hidden and inconspicuous. If needed, Dr. Brenman will reposition the nipple and areola higher on the breast mound to create a more natural-looking appearance. He will shape the remaining breast tissue before closing the incisions with sutures. Breast reduction is typically performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient procedure.Recovery and Results After Breast Reduction
After the surgery, you will need to wear a surgical bra for several weeks to help support the breasts and promote healing. You can expect some swelling and bruising after the procedure, but these side effects usually subside within a few weeks. Most patients can return to work and light activities after one week. Recovery time varies for everyone, but you should avoid strenuous activities and heavy lifting for four to six weeks. You’ll likely feel an immediate improvement in the weight of your breasts after surgery. The final results of breast reduction may take several months to become fully apparent, but most patients experience significant relief from physical symptoms and improved body image. These results are long-lasting if you maintain a steady weight.Breast Reduction Consultations Available
