How Long Does Breast Reduction Surgery Take?

While some women are bothered by small breasts, others struggle with the problems caused by large ones. Large breasts can cause self-consciousness and even pain. Breast reduction surgery gives you well-shaped, proportionate breasts. This procedure has numerous benefits, including improvements in your physical and mental well-being.

What is Breast Reduction Surgery?

Breast reduction surgery, also called reduction mammoplasty, removes excess skin and breast tissue to produce smaller, more balanced breasts. This procedure can have powerful effects on your life by freeing you from the many problems caused by large breasts. Dr. Brenman has extensive experience performing breast reduction surgeries. He will make sure you achieve the more proportionate breasts you want to see.

How Long Does Breast Reduction Surgery Take?

Dr. Brenman plans each breast reduction to address your needs most effectively. Depending on the complexity of your procedure, it may take two to four hours. Dr. Brenman will keep incisions as small as possible while giving you the shape and size you want. He will also reposition the nipples and areolas, which often point downward on large breasts. Incisions may be located around the areola or under the breasts, depending on how much loose skin must be removed.

How Do I Know if I Need a Breast Reduction?

Your large breasts may affect your life in many ways. If you struggle with any of these issues, breast reduction offers a possible solution. Your breasts should not hold you back from a full, enjoyable life.
  • Back, shoulder, or neck pain
  • Poor posture
  • Difficulty finding bras and clothes
  • Discomfort during physical activities
  • Self-consciousness
  • Breasts that look out of proportion to your body
Breast reduction provides physical health benefits such as decreased back pain and more freedom to exercise. You can also enjoy a wider selection of clothes and more freedom to wear what you like.

What is Recovery Like After Breast Reduction?

Your recovery will depend on the details of your procedure, but you can expect some swelling and discomfort in the days immediately following it. Most people can return to work within about a week. Jobs that require lifting or other intensive activities will require a longer recovery before returning to work. Dr. Brenman will provide detailed post-surgical instructions to help your recovery go smoothly.

Do I Need a Breast Reduction or a Breast Lift?

If you have large breasts, they often sag over time. This can leave you wondering if you need a breast reduction or a breast lift. While breast reduction can give you smaller, repositioned breasts, it will not address significant sagging. If you have both problems, you can combine breast reduction with a breast lift for the most lifted, shapely results.
This visit was a pleasure! Dr. Brenman thoroughly explained my options and did seem rushed. He answered all my questions and made me comfortable with making my decision. Gina was friendly and helpful in facilitating scheduling etc. I feel confident in my choice.
