If you are preparing for a mastectomy (removal of the breast) or a lumpectomy that removes a significant amount of breast volume, your doctor may discuss the option of breast reconstruction surgery. In the hands of a board-certified surgeon like Dr. Brenman, you can achieve restored and normal-looking breasts.

What is Breast Reconstruction?
After full or partial breast removal, many women feel uncomfortable or incomplete. For these women, breast reconstruction offers several procedure options to give each woman the option of having her breasts returned to their natural state. Some women find that they feel comfortable with their bodies after a mastectomy, and these women may prefer not to undergo reconstruction. What You Need to Know About Breast Reconstruction Surgery
You should consider all of your options during a consultation to understand the choices available to you. You can begin planning before you even have your mastectomy. You have the choice between immediate and delayed breast reconstruction. An immediate reconstruction starts at the same time as a mastectomy, while a delayed reconstruction may wait for some healing to occur first. People may see better results from immediate reconstruction, but not everyone has this option for medical and surgical reasons. You also have the choice of using an implant for your reconstruction or an autologous tissue transfer, which replaces the lost volume with tissue taken from a donor site elsewhere on the body. This option will leave a scar at the donor site but can avoid the need for implants for people who prefer to avoid that choice. If you only had a mastectomy on one breast, you may be recommended for a procedure such as an implant or lift in the other breast to achieve better symmetry.Breast Reconstruction Consultations Available

How Does Breast Reconstruction Work? Each breast reconstruction surgery follows a unique treatment plan. Because your situation will vary depending on the extent of your mastectomy and other factors, Dr. Brenman will design a plan to create the best breasts for you. Your procedure may take as little as an hour and a half, but Dr. Brenman will take as long as needed to achieve the desired results. Working with your other doctors, we can plan out a way to restore your breasts to normal using a medically safe and individualized plan. What is Recovery Like from Breast Reduction?
You will experience soreness and swelling for the first several days. You will receive a compression bra to help support your breasts as they heal, and you will have to refrain from any strenuous activities for four to six weeks. Your reconstructed breasts may have residual swelling for up to six months before your final results become visible. “After losing 87 pounds I decided I would treat myself and get a tummy tuck that I have been wanting for some time. I researched and thought Dr Scot Brenman would be best. Well suffice it to say I am not thrilled with my results. Ultimately my tummy is flatter which was what I wanted but my belly button is 2 inches above the incision line which I hate! He promised lipo which til this day I’m betting he didn’t do! Also his aftercare was thee WORSE! He never followed up with me after the removal of my drains! No way will he receive another one of my hard earned dimes!” *This visit was a pleasure! Dr. Brenman thoroughly explained my options and did seem rushed. He answered all my questions and made me comfortable with making my decision. Gina was friendly and helpful in facilitating scheduling etc. I feel confident in my choice.
