What is Erectile Dysfunction?

Erectile dysfunction means that a person has difficulty developing or maintaining an erection. It may be caused by a wide variety of causes, including:
  • Heart disease
  • Atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries)
  • Smoking
  • Diabetes
  • Obesity
  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Stress and anxiety
An erection forms when blood fills internal spaces, causing rigidity. Issues with blood flow and circulation commonly cause erectile dysfunction. Many men with erectile dysfunction feel uncomfortable talking about it. It might never occur to them to bring it up with a doctor at a plastic surgery center. However, The Pennsylvania Centre for Plastic Surgery and Dr. Scott Brenman have on hand one of the most advanced tools for noninvasive ED treatment: the Alma Duo™.

How is Erectile Dysfunction Treated?

The Alma Duo™ erectile dysfunction treatment can improve ED caused by vascular (blood flow) problems. Instead of having to take a pill every time you want to engage in sexual activity, this treatment can restore spontaneity and let you achieve a natural erection whenever you want to.  Developed initially to break up kidney stones without causing any damage to the surrounding tissue, low-intensity extracorporeal shockwave therapy (LI-ESWT) uses pulses (“shockwaves”) of energy that travel harmlessly through the skin and target the tissue and blood vessels that carry blood in and out of the treatment area.  The treatment causes minor, painless trauma to the tissues, which causes them to release healing factors that promote improved blood flow and the development of new blood vessels. In addition, it can break down deposits inside existing blood vessels to improve blood flow to the treatment area.
