Breast cancer treatment can often result in the need for a mastectomy. For many patients, one of the biggest steps on the road to recovery is breast reconstruction. Using autologous tissue (meaning one’s own tissue) is a proven and popular method for breast reconstruction.

Autologous tissue breast reconstruction is a technique where one’s own tissue is borrow from another area of the body and used to reconstruct the breast mound. There are a number of areas of the body that are used as donor sites, the common ones being the back and abdomen.
